Common Name: 'Ruby' Muhly Grass
Latin Name: Muhlenbergia reverchonii ‘PUND01S’
Brand: Plant Select®
Description:
One of North America’s most beautiful native grasses, UNDAUNTED® Ruby Muhly features fine-textured, soft green foliage that erupts into a cloud of reddish-pink flowers in autumn, glowing like a crimson halo when backlit by fall sunlight. Originally selected from a hardy Texas population by Lauren Springer Ogden and Scott Ogden, this compact, clumping ornamental grass is drought-tolerant, cold-hardy to Zone 5, and thrives in both clay and loam soils. A longer-lived, more refined cousin to Gulf muhly, it holds tight form and offers standout performance from prairie gardens to modern landscapes.
Care Tips:
Plant in full sun for best flowering. Tolerates moderate to dry conditions, seasonal water-logging, and alkaline clay soils. Requires minimal maintenance. Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring to refresh the plant. Excellent in mass plantings, borders, or as an accent with late-season perennials.
Landscape Uses:
Prairie-style gardens, meadows, mass plantings, xeriscapes, slope stabilization, accent borders, naturalistic designs
